Retro, chic and just down right cool, is exactly how I would describe my stay last weekend at The Hoxton Hotel. Craving a staycation in London somewhere I could have a break from the every day, but still be in the heart of the city, I couldn’t think of anywhere better than The Hoxton.
Located in the heart of London’s hipster East, The Hoxton – Shoreditch is a stone’s throw from the City of London (finance peeps) and Brick Lane/Spittalfields (vintage lovers). I chose to spend the night there last Friday, wanting the option to get to know life in Shoreditch a little more, and have the chance to wake up to breakfast in bed on Saturday morning (who doesn’t love a bit of room service?!). The hotel itself boasts a number of areas to dine, work, gossip and just chill. You can enjoy a coffee in their relaxing garden, have eggs benedict in their grill and sip on a glass of wine by the fire, any time you like. Every corner of the hotel just boasts so much personality, from the moment you walk into the moody hotel lobby, you can see just how tastefully The Hoxton marries retro with current, and upbeat with laid back.
Our room for the night was one of their signature cosy doubles. You might describe the room as a journey back in time – from the 50’s printed headboard, to the 60’s style radio, the interior design was utter perfection. And yes, you guessed it, there was even an original Nintendo straight out of the 90’s with Street Fighter II ready to plug-in and play (which we did at about 1am after our night out, haha) What I love even more about The Hoxton, both the Shoreditch and Holborn branch, is that the brand isn’t just a hotel, but more a part of the community. Both hotels boast a number of events each month to get people in the area involved and give them a chance to become part of The Hoxton family. And if that’s not enough, how about renting out their separate “Apartment” which can be used for work meetings, or a party of up to 250 people!
So, maybe you’re thinking about a Valentines Day treat, the fact that you need a break from the daily grind, or you’re coming to visit London for the first time, whatever it is – get The Hoxton* high up on your list. You’ll get the coolest introduction to the edgy side of Londontown, be taken on a retro adventure, and have the best poached eggs in town thrown in as a delicious side. Get booking!
