During my trip to the UK I was lucky to have a couple of wonderful sunny days. I find the British countryside so inspiring as a photographer, so there are hundreds of places I have on my list to keep in mind for future shoots. As a starting point, I wanted to style a few shoots in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, to play around with the sorts of themes that I felt would suit the location.
What comes to mind when I think of the countryside is feeling cosy, but regal and like your on set for Downton Abbey!! Unfortunately this time though, Highclere Castle wasn’t available, but maybe one day I’ll be able to coordinate my own fashion shoot there, on a crisp winter morning, photographing models wearing the Moschino AW13 collection….Oh to dream! (Check out the gorgeous collection here)
My dear friend, Diane, who owns a gorgeous boutique in Chesterfield wanted a few fun outfit shots of some of her winter products. And so, with inspiration from pieces in the boutique, I put together a couple of looks. I chose a ‘cosy’ look for the theme this time, as I fell in love with this grey baggy jumper and styled everything around that (plus baggy knits are very in this season).
For this styled shoot, I had my lovely friend Lydia help me with the photographs. She is such a talented little artist that after only a short explanation of the sorts of shots and angles I was looking for, and showing her some poses, she was set to go! Well done, Lydia!!
It’s so enjoyable being in different locations, working with different environments, as it really challenges you in creating a concept for the sorts of photographs and look you want to evoke. Hope you enjoy them and a big thank you to Lydia!
